Online Safety
Keeping Our Children Safe Online
Technology is an exciting part of daily learning at Alvanley and Manley! We are dedicated to helping our pupils explore the digital world responsibly and safely.
How We Protect Pupils in School
Our school IT network uses filtering tools to prevent access to harmful or inappropriate websites. Through our computing curriculum, children gradually learn age-appropriate strategies to stay safe whenever they go online.
Partnering with Parents at Home
We know how difficult it can be to manage screen time and internet safety outside of school. Unsupervised browsing can expose children to content meant for older audiences. To support you, we’ve shared helpful hints and tips below. If you ever need to report online safety concerns or abuse directly to law enforcement, please use the CEOP Safety Centre. Parents should also receive a free monthly e-safety newsletter from school. We urge parents to read this newsletter and keep up to date with changes and advances with modern day technology. School strongly discourage pupils from having access to apps that have age restrictions, not only may these apps expose our pupils to inappropriate content, but access to these apps can also cause disruptions to learning in school.
A Note on Social Media
Most major platforms (including Instagram, Snapchat, X/Twitter, and Facebook) set their minimum age at 13, making them unsuitable for primary age children. Though we advise against children using these apps, we understand it happens. To make informed decisions for your family, explore Net Aware for honest reviews and safety advice on popular apps. Parents should also read our Parental Controls Guide for more information on age restrictions on many different apps.
